Stop the Cuts to TAFE!

Amie was a student at Lillydale TAFE, in the seat of Monbulk, until the Victorian government decided to close it down. Now, like many other students and their teachers, she's been forced to move away from her home.

The Napthine Government has cut $1.2 billion from TAFE in just 4 years.

13 of Victoria's 14 TAFEs are now considered to be at medium or high risk of becoming financially unsustainable.

Cutting funding shows a government that is backward short sighted, simply dumb.

Outrageous what conservatives have done to our world class TAFE systems across Australia. A market driven system do not meet the needs of students, employers, industry or the economy it simply lines the pockets of providers that choose to cut corners on training. Putting all of the above at risk. It is time for government to rethink contestable funding and restore sufficient funding to TAFE.

TAFE is an essential part of our education system NOT merely the source & supplier of a labour force for Big Business & industry as Liberal Governments at all levels like to portray it . It is, and must remain, a viable option for all people and it must continue to be the provider of a wide range of education and training, not be narrowed to any government’s economic view of industry. TAFE provides massive personal, societal and community benefits well beyond the economic wealth of our country. It MUST be supported and funded by our elected representatives and governments to continue to do so. People before profits!!

Teachers speak up

The Napthine Government's cuts to education mean staff and programs are being cut from our schools. Support staff, and programs like "Reading Recovery" have been cut, so Victorian kids get less individual attention. Without this support, some kids are getting left behind.  Tell Denis Napthine to put education first: Sign the petition and support our teachers.  Read more
