Working in pathology labs made Jimmy feel like an important part of the health system.
With the increasing reliance on pathology for diagnosis and treatment, it made perfect sense for Jimmy to work in pathology – it combined his passions for science and wanting to improve the lives of others.
“I used to work as a medical scientist in pathology. But I moved on because all I saw was cost cutting while being told everything would be more ‘sustainable’ and more ‘efficient’. And now all I see is more of my colleagues being made redundant despite soaring workloads.”
The real impact of health cuts
But Jimmy explains that he has growing fears that the Napthine Government is only interested in a profitable healthcare system, not one that makes sure everyone can get the care they need when they need it.
With more medical scientists being made redundant to cut costs, the more work is being piled on those left behind.
As Jimmy says, “patients will find themselves waiting longer for results of critical tests because there are too few medical scientists trying to get through ever increasing workloads.”
“For me I see a government not interested in giving Victorians the best health care possible when they need it. I only see a government that keeps cutting vital medical services. It’s only a matter of time before our health system falls over because the Napthine Government refuses to properly fund health care.”
